Dana, this is profound work that you are doing in the world. I appreciate how you're neatly unbraiding an archetype that nearly every person on the planet is familiar with. I've never thought about hormones as disabilities, and yet -- when I hear people using the tired logic that "a woman could never be the president because she would declare war when she's on her period", the healthy functioning of women's bodies are being used against them. (When Trump said this of Hilary in 2016, it was preposterous since she was no longer menstruating. The least he could do is check his facts.)
Sarah thank you! Yes I have become obsessed with rethinking, retelling and reimagining our feminine tropes through a more empowering lens. But each time I come up against these basic negative assumptions we all carry about women, they almost all trace back to the stories of the church killing the goddess- summarized in Eves story. Eve had become my archetype of the goddess they told lies about to defame us all. I want to unpack her.
We are cut from the same cloth, my friend! I am SO here for this!!!
As a Mormon Feminist, I was voracious in understanding how the goddess was eradicated from the holy texts and how there are traces of her that linger in the Bible (any mention of wisdom = the goddess).
Patriarchy is so deeply insidious. And yet here we are, flying like a plane with one wing in circles.
We’re creating a safe context for the plane to have two wings so we can finally make some progress.
“flying like a plane with one wing in circles” there’s an image! Thank you for my most recent smile! Interesting to learn more about your background and what brings you to this work. There’s so many ways to empower women. We need all of them! All of us!
Thanks for sharing your experience Priyanka. I so wish this wasn't so true. For so many years I tried not to believe so little had changed. That's become impossible. But historical perspective is important to deal with reality eyes open.

(If Trump checked his facts he wouldn’t trump.)

Very well-written and hits home. As a woman in a male dominated field I encounter a lot of resistance and biases.
